Here’s a look at some local news:

During the New Mexico Facilities Manager Conference, the Deming Public Schools facilities team was recognized for its outstanding performance by receiving the Ben Lujan Maintenance Achievement Award. Individual achievement recognition was awarded to Tom Arenibas for his 32 years of service for the district in addition to and Manny Rodriguez for his 29 years of service. According to a release, over the past 12 months the facilities team completed 5,695 work orders. Senator Ben Lujan was a champion in the state senate for education and the award was created to recognize the top performing school districts in New Mexico who consistently keep their school in top performing condition.

The Bayard City Council will conduct a Special Meeting at 2:00 p.m. next Monday, November 25th, at the Bayard City Hall. Items on the agenda relate to Wastewater System User Fee Increase for Colonias Infrastructure Dewatering System Project and temporary salary adjustments for maintenance department personnel. A copy of the Agenda in its entirety may be obtained at the City Hall Administrative Office during regular business hours by the Friday before the scheduled meeting date. In addition, the December regular meeting will be held on Monday, December 9th at 2:00 P.M. Any person wishing to be placed on the agenda should contact the City Clerk no later than 1:30 PM on the Wednesday preceding the posted date for the next regular meeting. The public is invited to attend.

Local Girl Scout Troop 370 delivered cards to veterans residing at Fort Bayard Medical Center. In addition, the girls also donated from the Fort Bayard Halloween event to the veteran residents. The Girl Scout participants included: Trinity McBride; Kamara Ortiz; Sophia Rodriguez; Angelique Vanatter; Marissa Garza; Aimerie Peña; Dakota Montenegro; Shavelle Ortiz; Rita Montenegro; Kaileen Maynes; Kayhine Harper; Mariah Rodriguez; and Gabby Arciero. Fort Bayard State Veterans Home provides care for people who have a medical need and who can no longer provide care for themselves and is available to any honorably discharged Veteran, Veteran Spouse and Gold Star Parents.
