Here is a look at what’s going on in the local and region news.

First, a look at the weather.   We are under a winter advisory. Snow is anticipated to taper off and end this evening, but skies will remain cloudy late.  Chance of snowfall is reported to be 90%.  Tomorrow should be clear with a high of around 40 degrees and low around 20 degrees for the Silver City area.

For information on roads, check out nmroads.com.  They have the latest on road closings. Highway 152 over the Black Range is closed, most other roads are being reported as snow packed and icy. Closures seem to posted very quickly on nmroads.com so you can follow the latest from that source. Corre Cominos and Corre Cantinas is not running today or tonight.

The Grant County Republican Party released a news story on John Zimmerman being sworn in to his new office of State Representative for District 39.  Ceremonies were held at the Dona Ana County Government Center.

The Silver City Gospel Mission has released a new storybook and cookbook called “Stories and Recipes from the Soup Kitchen” that can be purchased on Amazon.com.  All proceeds from this book go directly into Mission operations.  A print version is just $9.99 and digital versions are available for kindles.  This is a unique look at the Gospel Mission with more than 100 whole-food, non-allergenic, nutritional recipes sized for families of five or large groups. Congratulations to Gospel Mission for having this published.

There was a single car crash off of a 30 foot embankment near Emory Pass, off Hwy 152, early Wednesday morning, hospitalizing the single car occupant, a woman from Minnesota.  Her car went off the road the night before and it wasn’t until the next morning did anyone notice and found her trapped in her vehicle.

PNM is greeting the New Year with new solar and new wind energy.  Yesterday, the 102-megawatt Red Mesa Wind Center starting pumping energy onto the PNM grid whenever the wind blows.  PNM has just added three new tracking solar centers that now producing energy and increasing the amount of solar capacity on the PNM system by over 33 percent.
