Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

The Wild, Wild West Pro Rodeo returns to Silver City this week with stock from Pete Carr’s Classic Pro Rodeo.  Carr has been recognized as one of the best in Pro Rodeo and is a regular nominee for Stock Contractor of the Year.  In the last three years, no other livestock company has had more animals selected to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.  Also in attendance this year will be Rodeo clown and entertainer Robbie Hodges, who has been nominated as the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s clown of the year, entertainer of the year, and the Coors Man in the Can- which recognizes the best barrelmen in the business.

US Border Patrol agents on patrol in Luna County apprehended a total of five subjects on Wednesday, including a convicted sexual offender.  Agents tracked and detained one of five subjects, a female from El Salvador who admitted to having crossed illegally into the States.  Agents later located and arrested four subjects attempting to hide in a pecan orchard.  During processing it was discovered that 34-year-old Mexican national, Juan Antonio Canales Martinez, had a prior conviction for “Sex with a Minor 3-plus years or Younger” out of California, along with other criminal charges.

On Saturday, May 14th, 50 nonprofit organizations in Grant and Luna counties participated in the annual local day of giving, Give Grandly.  The Grant County Community Foundation raised $12,500 in matching funds so that every organization that raised $250 got $250 in matched funds for a minimum of $500.  Of the 50 participants, 46 met the match.  This year the public generously gave to the effort a total of $100,000.  Give Grandly thanks the citizens of Grant and Luna Counties who gave to support our local nonprofits.

The Associated Press is reporting that Donald Trump on Thursday reached the number of delegates needed to clinch the Republican nomination for president.  Trump was put over the top in the Associated Press delegate count by a small number of the party’s unbound delegates who told the Associated Press they would support him at the convention.  Trump has reached 1,238 of 1,237 delegates needed to win the Republican nomination.  With 303 delegates at stake in five state primaries on June 7th, Trump is expected to pad his total, avoiding a contested convention in Cleveland in July.

USDA New Mexico Farm Service Agency Executive Director Molly Manzanares reminds producers that FSA offers targeted farm ownership and farm operating loans to assist underserved applicants as well as beginning farmers and ranchers.
