The Signal Fire that burns about 10 miles north of Silver City remains at an estimated 5,740 acres, and is now 70% contained.  Yesterday, 706 personnel battled the blaze.  The increased temperatures, low humidity and higher wind resulted in increasing fire behavior  with more aggressive burning during the weekend.  As a contingency, crews have been positioned along the Mimbres Valley area to provide initial attack if needed.
