The Lordsburg City Council will meet Wednesday, September 23 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. The agenda includes a proposed PERA change for the Police Department, a zoning change that would allow Motel 10 to become multifamily apartments, and an agreement with the Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments. The council is also scheduled to consider the mayor’s appointment of a police chief. A public comment period will also be held during the meeting.
Support for a proposed data center moratorium in Grant County is growing, with additional elected officials now weighing in on the issue. The proposal would place a one-year pause on new data center development to give officials time to gather information and develop regulations. U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez has also voiced support for a temporary moratorium, saying Grant and Hidalgo County residents should have more information about the potential impacts. The Grant County Commission is expected to consider the proposal Thursday.
Deming Public Schools is asking students and parents for input on student attendance. The district has launched a survey to better understand the challenges and barriers that may cause students to miss school, with the responses helping shape its Attendance Improvement Plan. The survey can be found on the Deming Public Schools website. Responses are confidential, and the survey will remain open until 5 p.m. Friday, September 25.

New Mexico farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers have an opportunity to apply for federal assistance to improve conservation practices on their land. The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is accepting applications through October 16 for consideration for Fiscal Year 2027 funding. Programs include the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, which can help address concerns such as water quality, soil health, erosion and wildlife habitat, and the Conservation Stewardship Program, which helps producers build on existing conservation efforts.
