The Town of Silver City is seeking public input as it begins the process of selecting its next town manager. Two public meetings are scheduled for tomorrow October 7 and Wednesday, October 14 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the City Hall Annex, located at 1203 North Hudson Street, on the second floor. Residents will have an opportunity to share their priorities for town leadership and ask questions about the selection process.
The Deming High School Wildcat Marching Band is off to a strong start this season, earning second place at its first marching competition of the year. The Wildcats are now preparing a competitive show while continuing their season with events including the Cobre High Marching Invitational, the New Mexico State University Tournament of Bands and the NMAA state marching competition later this month. Congratulations to the Deming High School Marching Band on this awesome achievement.
Hidalgo County voters will have an opportunity to meet local candidates and learn more about those running for office during a nonpartisan Candidate Meet and Greet and Forum Thursday, October 8. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lordsburg-Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce and is open to the public. The forum is being presented as a fair and open opportunity for the community to get informed and engage with local candidates.

In honor of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, organizations across Southwest New Mexico are highlighting resources available to people experiencing domestic violence. In Grant and Hidalgo counties, El Refugio provides crisis support and advocacy, while La Casa’s Healing House in Deming serves Luna and Hidalgo counties with emergency shelter, advocacy and other services. Catron County residents can also access support through El Puente del Socorro, which serves Catron, Sierra and Socorro counties. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is an opportunity to recognize survivors, increase awareness and remind those experiencing abuse that help is available.
