The Silver City “Pick It Up – Toss No Más” June community litter cleanup event brought together 49 volunteers who dedicated 49 hours to collecting 375 pounds of litter and debris throughout the community. Cleanup efforts covered multiple locations, including the 32nd Street Bypass, Big Ditch Park, Spring Street, Chihuahua Hill, Penny Park, Memory Lane Cemetery, Pinos Altos Creek, 12th Street, and Kelly Street. Thank you to all those who volunteered their time to help keep Silver City clean and beautiful.
The Grant County Board of Commissioners will hold its regular meeting on July 9, at 9 a.m. in the Commission Meeting Room at the Grant County Administration Complex. The meeting agenda includes public input, updates from elected officials, consideration of new business items, including an appointment to the Grant County Valuation Protest Board and the Stream Dynamics Water Harvesting Project. Commissioners will also consider Resolution R-26-24 for the adoption of the Fiscal Year 2027 final budget.
Congratulations to Dr. Alexandra Neves, Associate Dean of the College of Education and professor of TESOL/Bilingual Education at WNMU, who was honored with the 2026 University Bilingual Education Professor of the Year Award from the Association of Bilingual Education New Mexico. Dr. Neves was recognized for her decades of advocacy, leadership, and commitment to preparing culturally responsive educators while promoting bilingualism as an asset for New Mexico students. Her work has helped connect academic research with classroom practice, improving instruction across the region and creating learning environments that celebrate and preserve multiple languages.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management is inviting community members to participate in a Public Lands Clean Up event July 10–12 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Volunteers will meet near the Veterans Park area in Lordsburg and help remove trash and debris from public lands south of the city, with cleanup efforts focused on the Animas Road, Banner Mine, and South Main Street areas.
