Officials with the Gila National Forest report that firefighting resources have completed annual training, passed readiness reviews and are fully prepared for wildfire response. Available assets include hotshot crews, hand crews, engine crews, helicopters and unmanned aerial systems, all supported by the Silver City Airtanker Base, Incident Support Cache and Interagency Dispatch Center, with additional resources available as needed. The National Interagency Fire Center reported that above-normal fire potential is expected to continue through June due to ongoing drought conditions and widespread tree mortality.

Silver Consolidated Schools has announced the launch of a new online resource to share information about the future of the Cliff Combined Schools project. The Town of Silver City is inviting residents to take an active role in shaping the community’s future at an upcoming Community Priorities Workshop on April 24. The event will give participants a chance to share ideas and help establish the key goals that will guide the Town’s Comprehensive Plan update. The workshop is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon at the Murray Hotel, and community members are encouraged to attend and make their voices heard.

A Secretarial Natural Disaster Designation has been issued, enabling the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) to provide emergency credit to agricultural producers in Grant, Luna, and Hidalgo counties as they recover from recent disasters. These emergency loans may be used for a range of recovery needs, including replacing essential equipment or livestock, reorganizing farming operations, or refinancing certain debts.
