The Cobre Consolidated Schools Board of Education is planning a town hall to gather public input before adopting a new electronic device policy required under a 2025 state mandate. The district is considering two New Mexico School Boards Association policy options, both of which now include required digital citizenship instruction on topics such as screen time and social media risks. The proposed policies apply to all wireless communication devices, including cell phones, smartwatches and tablets. Public comments may be submitted through the district’s website.
Grant County 4-H members had an exceptional showing at the 2026 New Mexico State 4-H Conference, earning numerous team and individual awards, a state championship, and a national qualification. Areena Rogers was named High Point Individual in both the Hippology and Horse Judging contests, earning two $1,500 scholarships from New Mexico State University. The county also placed in multiple team competitions, including second in Horse Judging, third in Livestock Skill-a-thon, Horticulture, and Entomology, fourth in Meats Identification and Entomology, and fifth in Hippology. The Grant County Parliamentary Procedure Team captured the State Championship and qualified to represent New Mexico at the Western National Roundup Parliamentary Procedure Contest in Denver.
Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) is expanding diabetes prevention, education, and wellness efforts across southwest New Mexico through partnerships with the University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University Extension, and local organizations. HMS also partnered to train and certify 26 Community Health Worker Diabetes Specialists, increasing diabetes education and support in rural border communities. Additional programs provide health screenings, education, and self-management resources while strengthening existing local diabetes support services to improve community health outcomes.

Building on a 2019 partnership, the agreement aligns federal and state resources to support healthier forests, protect watersheds, strengthen rural economies, and improve community resilience while advancing broader efforts to accelerate forest management on federally managed lands.
