At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 28,224 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases with 15,825 tested as recovered. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has risen to 119 total cases with 44 recovered; Luna County increased to 416 total cases with 154 recovered; Hidalgo County remains at 99 total cases with 68 recovered; and Catron County remains at 9 total cases with 4 recovered.

The Navopache Electric Cooperative (NEC) has announced a planned power outage on Tuesday, September 29th that will affect Luna, Reserve, Glenwood and surrounding areas. The planned outage has been scheduled to provide necessary maintenance to existing electrical lines. The outage is expected to begin at 10:00 A.M. and will be continue for approximately 7 hours. According to a release, the Gila National Forest and the NEC urge the public to plan ahead for the power outage and if using a generator, that it should be installed and inspected by a qualified electrician. The NEC will provide updates during the outage on their Facebook page and website, navopache.org.

 The Gila National Forest will waive fees at the Catwalk National Recreation Trail/Whitewater Picnic Area (day use recreation site) on National Public Lands Day tomorrow, Saturday, September 26th. National Public Lands Day traditionally celebrates volunteer work on public lands and the opportunity to connect to nature. The Forest Service participates in fee-free days with other federal agencies to commemorate holidays and encourage Americans to visit their public lands. The final fee-free day for 2020 will be November 11th, Veterans Day.
