Western New Mexico University is presenting the official launch of “Mimbres Press” that will include music and readings by WNMU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jack Crocker, who authored the press’ first book. His collection of poems, The Algorithm of I, is a reflective journey of intellectual prowess that spins nostalgia with purpose and wonders about life, faith and human evolution,” according to the foreword written by WNMU President Dr. Joseph Shepard. Mimbres Press at WNMU is dedicated to advancing the university’s mission through the publication of works that reflect the intellectual, creative, historical, natural and cultural heritage of the southwest and New Mexico, as well as selective works of national and global significance.

New Mexico Department of Health officials have issued their daily COVID-19 report announcing that an additional 725 have been reported statewide. Locally the news cases were reports as follows: Grant County with 10 news cases; Luna County with 6 new cases; and no new cases reported in Hidalgo and Catron counties. Regarding local COVID-19 vaccination rates, the percent of Grant county residents that have received at least one shot is at 74.6% with 68.6% t of residents having completed the vaccination series. In Hidalgo County, 66% of residents have received the first COVID-19 shot with 59.8% receiving the full 2-shot series. In Luna County, 81.4% of residents have received at least one shot, with 73.5% receiving the full series, and 48% of Catron County residents have received at least one COVID shot with 42.4 1% receiving the full two shot series.

The Grant County Fair is underway in Cliff and will run through Sunday morning at 8:00 A.M. with Cowboy Church. Tonight activities feature a rodeo at 7:00 P.M. and dancing on the slab with the Yarbrough Band at 9:00 P.M. Tomorrow’s schedule includes Livestock Judging, Junior Rodeo, Junior Livestock Sale, award presentations, and more dancing on the slab with Big K DJ. and much more.
