At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 29,661 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases with 16,926 tested as recovered. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has risen to 128 total cases with 48 recovered; Luna County rose to 425 total cases with 182 recovered; Hidalgo County rose to 101 total cases with 73 recovered; and Catron County remains at 9 total cases with 5 recovered.

PNM has announced that it set aside $2 million for new COVID Customer Relief Programs to assist struggling residential and small business customers pay their past due electric bills. The program is designed to deliver help for both residential and small business customers who are behind in their bills and want to avoid an interruption of electric service in the future. The funds are derived from shareholders earnings. According to a release, PNM has seen declines in overall commercial customer electricity use due to the pandemic, but an increase of use among all customers due to the hot summer temperatures. The summer’s additional revenue from increased use allowed a portion to be set aside to support customers needing assistance in paying down summer electric bills.  Assistance is available first come, first serve and a full list of eligibility and requirements is available at PNM.com/help.

Silver City PFLAG has announced two recipients of the Nancy Kailing Memorial Scholarship at Western New Mexico University, Lisa Origlio and Hannah Cothran. Lisa Origlio, is a graduate student seeking a Master’s in Social Work and is from Brighton, Colorado. Hannah Cothran, is a graduate student working on a Master’s in Special Education plus an endorsement in TESOL, and lives in Albuquerque. The Nancy Kailing Memorial Scholarship is given to WNMU students who have demonstrated work toward securing equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons. Nancy Kailing, was the founder of PFLAG Fairbanks, Alaska and a former president of PFLAG Silver City.
