The Silver City Police Department in celebration of the Thanksgiving Holiday, delivered 50 turkeys to families in each of the eight schools in the Silver Consolidated School District that included the Silver Scholars Pre-K class. In addition, the money raised from the Silver City Police Department’s “No Shave November” fundraiser earned enough to donate more turkeys for families in El Refugio and El Grito Head Start, 34 $20 food gift cards and new winter coats to children in need for Christmas.

The 31st Annual Silver City Lighted Christmas Parade hosted by Silver City MainStreet and the Town of Silver City kicked off the holiday season on Saturday night as business and organizations participated in lighting up the downtown Silver City area. The winners of the parade in their individual categories are as follows:

  • In the Commercial Category the winners were in 1st place, Freeport McMoRan and in 2nd place, Holiday Inn Express.
  • In the Non-profit/Civic Category the winners were in 1st place, WNMU Foundation; 2nd place to Hidalgo Medical Services; and 3rd place El Grito Head Start
  • In the Individual Category, 1st place was awarded to The Palomarez Family

The Annual Village of Santa Clara Lighted Christmas Parade is scheduled for this Saturday evening, December 4th. Call Santa Clara City Hall at 575-537-2443 for details and how to enter a float in the parade.

Sponsored by the Hidalgo County Health Council and the Youth Substance Awareness and Prevention Coalition of Grant County, there is a free online Narcan Training session scheduled for Friday December the 10th from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M.
