The New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division and Safer New Mexico Now is hosting an in-person Child Car Seat Inspection and Toy Drive on Saturday December 10th from 10:00 A.M. to 12 P.M. at Sisbarro of Deming, located at 4211 New Mexico Highway 549. According to a news release, “This free educational event provides parents and caregivers instruction on the proper selection, installation, and use of their car seats from nationally certified child passenger safety technicians.” The technicians will spend approximately 30 minutes per child seat educating the adults including common errors in car seat safety. If a car seat is deemed to be recalled, expired, or unsafe, replacement seats will be available. Parents and caregivers need to bring their car seat, car seat manual, vehicle manual, and if possible, the child that will be using the car seat. More information can be obtained at www.safernm.org.

Silver Schools, in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday, will be closed Monday November 21st through Friday, November 25th, and Cliff Schools will be closed November 23rd and 24th. Regular class schedules will resume on Monday, November 28th. In addition, Silver Consolidated School District Offices will also be closed from November 23rd through November 25th and will open again for regular hours on Monday, November 28th.

In Deming news, Mimbres Memorial Hospital has recently announced that they have re-opened their main entrance at 900 West Ash Street. In addition, Registration and Business Offices have been relocated to the Ash Street entrance of the hospital.

Pamela Rodgers of the Alzheimer’s Association will be presenting a program about Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia. The program is scheduled for tomorrow morning from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and taking place at the Deming Senior Center, 800 South Granite Street. All are welcome to attend.
