The Disabled American Veterans Grant County/Fort Bayard Chapter made several presentations during a monthly meeting last week. The meeting was turned over to the Southwest Quilts of Valor Organization whereby the quilters presented a beautiful Quilt of Valor to local Army Veteran SP/5 Maryanne Coppinger 1975-78. After the presentation of the quilt, the quilters agreed to draw the winning tickets for Chapter’s 6.5 Creedmoore Annual Fundraiser. The Winners were as follows:

  • First Place to Robert Muniz, winning a 6.5 Creedmoore hunting rifle and scope
  • Second Place to Bobby Polanco, winning a $200 Walmart Gift Card
  • Third Place to Ray Dominguez, winning a $100 Walmart Gift Card

Chapter 1 wishes to thank all generous people in Southwest New Mexico and DK Pawn for supporting the Disabled American Veterans and making this fundraiser a great success.

The Village of Santa Clara is presenting their Annual Tamal Y Mas Fiesta this Saturday, November 20th from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. in front of Santa Clara City Hall. Visitors will celebrate local Hispanic culture through food and music and other activities. In addition to lots of tamales, some of the special events include Folklorico Dancers Corazon de Luna y Rayitos de Luna, the Siempre Band, Mariachi Luna Yena de Las Cruces, cornhole tournament, First Annual Chancla Throw, and plenty of children’s activities.

The New Mexico Department of Health has announced that eligibility for the COVID-19 booster shots has been expanded to include individuals ages 18 and and up. New Mexicans are urged to make arrangements to receive their booster shot immediately by scheduling and appointment online at VaccineNM.org
