Silver Consolidated Schools in partnership with The Commons Center for Food Security and Sustainability is helping students and families who may be in need of grocery support during the week of the upcoming Thanksgiving break, November 21st through 25th. According to an announcement, Silver Schools will be passing out pre-boxed containers of Family food on Monday, November 21st. The food items are meant to assist families through Thanksgiving week. Families in need that would benefit from this opportunity are urged to stop by the Silver Consolidated Schools Central Office located at 2810 North Swan Street between the hours of 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Former Senator, John Arthur Smith, who represented New Mexico District 35 from 1989 to 2020 was honored by the Deming Silver Spikes with a bench placed in front of the Luna County Courthouse. The Silver Spikes are Luna County political advocates who bring issues of average Luna County citizens to the Roundhouse in Santa Fe. The bench features the former senator’s name and years of service. John Arthur Smith represented Luna County in the state senate for over 30 years.

The Grant County Treasurer’s Office and Solid Waste Department will be temporarily closed this Wednesday, November 16th, due to a Property Tax Auction taking place that day. Property Tax and solid waste payments can be deposited in the drop boxes located outside the Grant County Administration Center or inside the building by the Treasurer’s Office.
