The Village of Santa Clara is now under Stage Two Fire Restrictions due to ongoing drought conditions. The restrictions prohibit charcoal briquets, outdoor burning stoves, campfires, and certain fireworks, while allowing approved gas cooking devices if attended at all times. Chainsaws and other internal combustion equipment may only be used with a functional spark arrestor, and welding or open-flame torches require a permit from the Fire Chief. Violations may result in fines of up to $500, imprisonment for up to 90 days, or both.
The Town of Silver City will host a public meeting on Thursday, June 4 at 5 p.m. in the Upstairs Conference Room at 1203 N. Hudson St. The meeting will provide an update on the previous year’s Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan (ICIP) and gather community input on future capital projects and priorities, including improvements for the Silver City Senior Center. Residents are encouraged to share ideas for projects involving streets, utilities, public safety, parks, trails, housing, community facilities, and other infrastructure needs.

Desert Oasis in Deming, an organization that provides recovery services, support programs and community resources for individuals rebuilding their lives after incarceration, recently hosted its Night of Remembrance and Renewal. During the event, New Mexico State Representative Jennifer Jones announced a $30,000 contribution to the organization through her Government Results and Opportunity (GRO) allocation. The funding will support the continued growth of Desert Oasis and its services for residents in the region and represents a significant investment in programs aimed at promoting recovery, stability and successful community reintegration.
