There’s a free Summer Safety COVID Vaccination event in Silver City on Saturday, June 5th from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. in Gough Park, 1201 North Pope Street. All 3 brands of COVID vaccinations will be available. The event features family friendly activities including a bike safety rodeo, free bicycle helmets while they last, and much more. In addition, the Luna County Health Council will be hosting an event to assist the community with COVID-19 vaccine registration on Saturday, June 5th from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Pepper’s Supermarket. This is also a free event.

Four outstanding educators were selected to be included in the Western New Mexico University School of Education Hall of Fame and inducted during a virtual ceremony this spring. The 2020-2021 WNMU School of Education Hall of Fame inductees are: Monica Ortiz Baca, Cindy Murphy Lee, Leland D. Miller, and Mr. Darwin K. Bleak. Congratulations to our exemplary local educators.

The Silver City Museum is presenting “Unpacking Silver City”, a series of lectures and forums that focus on themes from local and Southwest New Mexican history. This month, three programs in this series are scheduled on Saturdays at 11:00 A.M via Zoom. Topics include “The Role of Government, The West in Pop Culture, and Building Community, presented by Dr. Doug Dinwiddie, Jim Smith, and Susan Berry. On this Memorial Day, we recognize those who died in active military service and remember them for making the ultimate sacrifice. Let us spend a moment remembering those who lost their lives and could not come home, reflecting on their service and why we have the luxury and freedom that we enjoy today.
