Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.

At the time of this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced 7,252 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases. There have been 179,543 tests performed statewide, 210 current COVID-19 related hospitalizations, and 2,638 cases designated as having recovered according to the Department of Health.  In addition, sadly there has been 329 COVID-19 related deaths recorded statewide. Positive COVID-19 cases in Grant County are 15 with 1,613 tests administered, Luna County with 7 cases and 1,280 tests administered, Catron County remaining at 2 with 92 tests administered, and Hidalgo County with 1 confirmed case and 247 administered tests.

Hidalgo Medical Services is expanding its COVID-19 testing in both Grant and Hidalgo counties to include asymptomatic testing starting on Monday, June 1st for the following:

  • HMS patients
  • Employees
  • Local employers
  • General Public

A limited number of scheduled testing will take place via drive-up service at the HMS Lordsburg Main Clinic in addition to the HMS Silver City Community Health Center. The tests are free of charge, however, participants are asked to bring their current insurance card, as HMS is required to bill the individual’s insurance company. The Gila National Forest is reopening six more recreation sites by tomorrow, May 29th. According to a release, some of the factors considered when deciding to open a site include state and local health and safety guidelines, seasonal availability, and facility conditions. Other recreation areas and campgrounds may not be immediately open and available for use. The sites that will be reopening are Iron Creek, Upper Gallinas, and Railroad Canyon Campgrounds on Silver City Ranger District, Dipping Vat and Aeroplane Mesa Campgrounds on Reserve Ranger District, and the Kingston Campground on the Black Range Ranger District.
