Silver City’s Pick It Up-Toss No Mas and Gila Resources Information Project are going to be holding a Dash for Trash, “Plogging” event on Saturday, May 20th. Plogging is a combination of jogging and picking up litter. It began several years ago as an organized activity in Sweden due to growing concerns about plastic pollution. The goal is to help make the community cleaner, healthier and more beautiful while getting some exercise. The event will take place from 9:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. with participants meeting at the Murray Ryan Visitors Center for supplies. There will be a celebration afterwards in the Big Ditch with music, food and prizes. Participants are encouraged to register by the 19th at website.

The Cancer Center of Deming Luna County is a nonprofit organization that provides services to cancer patients in the area. The organization provides free doctors rides, voucher programs, cancer resource library, airfare reimbursement program and much more. For more information call 575-546-4780.

A BIG Congratulations to the ladies of the Silver City High School Softball team for winning the State Championship this past weekend. The Lady Colts faced off against Gallup and were successful in bringing home the class 4A State Championship trophy. 

The Hidalgo Youth Conservation Corps is looking for youth in Hidalgo county to work as crew members. There will be two 6 week programs where youth will be able to earn money while riding bikes, hiking, taking drone pictures and more. The Deming Arts Council is sponsoring an “Arts in the Park” event this Saturday, May 20th. Participants will have a chance to see the outdoor art gallery, visit with the artists and listen to live entertainment. It will take place from 10:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. at the Courthouse Park.
