The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One office will be starting Chip Seal pavement maintenance operations next Tuesday, May 17th on various roadways in Grant County. Motorist will encounter reduced speeds, flagging and pilot car operations in addition to brooming and intermittent lane closures which will cause minor delays. Motorist are also alerted to reduce their speed, obey posted signs, and use caution in the work areas. Center striping will not be present in construction zones. The chip seal process is a surface treatment placed in existing pavement designed to seal out moisture and extend the longevity of the roadway. The roads receiving this treatment are the City of Rocks Roadway and New Mexico Highways 61, 15, 35, and 152.

In Deming, the Sam Baca Aquatic Center will be opening again after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic. The facility is owned and operated by the City of Deming and offers a recreational pool in addition to a therapy pool, lap, pool and diving board. Other features include a water slide, cascading water umbrellas and a snack bar. The facility is located at 815 West Buckeye Street and will officially open to the public on May 24th with general swimming from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. Tuesday through Sunday.

The Ho-Lo Silvers, a local choral group, is performing two Spring concerts this weekend, tonight at 7:00 P.M., and Sunday at 3:00 P.M., both at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church located at 420 West Market Street in Silver City. Nada Dates will direct the chorus who sing standards and spirituals with piano accompaniment by Rhonda Gorog and bass accompaniment by Kas Nelson. There is access by ramp and stairs from Market Street and a ramp entrance from the church parking lot on the east side. Access to the church parking lot is from Pinos Altos Road on the east, and Kelly Street on the north with additional parking on Bayard, Market and Kelly streets. The concert is free and open to the public.
