The New Mexico Department of Health has announced that businesses, nonprofit organizations, religious congregations, community centers, and other groups can now request on-site COVID-19 vaccination events through a new Department of Health webform at getvaxnm.com. According to a release, “organizations that can bring a minimum of 25 people to a vaccination event, through a combination of employees/members, family, or members of the surrounding community – will qualify, and DOH will work with the organization on scheduling. In some cases, DOH may combine multiple requests and create a single event in a given geographical location. DOH may also redirect requesting organizations to pre-existing events.” In addition, New Mexicans can also continue to register and self-schedule their vaccine appointments at vaccineNM.org.

The Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District is reopening group sites for reservations at several locations. The Little Walnut East, Little Walnut West, and the Gomez Peak Group sites are open for reservations immediately. Anyone reserving these sites is required to follow local, State, and federal laws including COVID restrictions. Reservations must be made in person at Supervisor’s Office/Silver City Ranger District at 3005 E Camino del Bosque in Silver City and the transactions must be debit or credit card only. Office hours are from8:00 A.M. to 4:15 P.M.  The forest will only be taking in-person, first-come/first-serve reservations through the end of May 2021. It is anticipated that by June 1st, reservations will be able to be made on Recreation.gov.

American Legion Bataan Post 4 in Deming has reopened their post thanks to the dedication of members and community volunteers. The first General membership Meeting for 2021 is scheduled for this Saturday, May 15th at 5:00 P.M. In addition, General Elections for officers serving for the 2021-22 term will be conducted at this meeting. The post is located at 619 West Spruce Street in Deming.
