At the time of this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced 4,863 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases. There have been 102,498 tests performed statewide, 194 current COVID-19 related hospitalizations, and 1,285 cases designated as having recovered according to the Department of Health.  In addition, sadly there has been 200 COVID-19 related deaths recorded statewide. Positive COVID-19 cases in Grant County remain at 15, Luna County at 7, Catron County at 2, and Hidalgo County with no confirmed cases.

Beginning today, by an amended state public health order, all essential businesses of any size currently operating under the public health order must also comply with the face covering requirement. All employers were strongly encouraged to acquire the face coverings in preparation for a potential Phase One reopening later this week, otherwise they may not be able to operation with state required compliance. In addition, retailers will not be required to provide face coverings for customers but are encouraged to post signage strongly encouraging customers to wear their own masks. Retailers at their own discretion may require customers to wear masks.

The Western New Mexico University Board of Regents will be meeting via Zoom this Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. to vote on the 2020-2021 budget as well as hear reports from the university president, faculty and staff presidents, and the student government president. In addition, the Board will vote on a host of other items, some of which include:

  • Faculty Promotion and Tenure and Post-Tenure Review
  • New Degree Programs Faculty and Student Handbook Changes
  • Staff Senate Constitution & Bylaws Changes
  • Associated Students of WNMU Constitution Amendments
  • Election of Officers

The executive session and the regular session will occur virtually.
