The USA Cycling sanctioned five-stage “Tour of the Gila” event is returning April 27th through May 1st to Silver City and surrounding areas. The race, featuring over 10,000 feet of climbing and difficult descents over five days, is deemed one of the most challenging road races in the country attracting professional and amateur cyclists from around the world. In addition, the Tour of the Gila features two professional races, the UCI Men’s race and the UCI Women’s race, as well as seven categories for amateurs. This year there will be a live audio and video broadcast of the UCI Men’s and Women’s Criterium races on April 30th from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M. online at https://www.tourofthegila.com/

The June 7th Primary Elections in New Mexico is quickly approaching as candidates registered for their respective office positions on Tuesday of this week. Besides races for state legislative and judicial offices, voters will be casting their ballots for county positions such as county commissioner, magistrate judge, county assessor, probate judge, and sheriff. Some important dates to remember are as follows:

  • March 15th – Write-In Candidate Filing Day
  • April 5th – Last day a candidate may withdraw for the Primary Election
  • May 10th – Voter registration deadline for paper and online registrations; Absentee Voting begins; Early Voting begins at County Clerk’s office
  • June 2nd – Absentee Application deadline
  • June 4th – Early Voting ends
  • June 7th – Primary Election Day

Silver City Recycles, a local non-profit, is accepting clean and sorted plastics #1 through #5, aluminum beverage cans, glass bottles, steel cans, and corrugated cardboard. The next drop off is Saturday March 26th from 12pm-2pm at 305 South Bullard in Downtown Silver City. Participants are asked to please follow the signs to approach on Texas Street.
