Today, we celebrate Flag Day in recognition of the Second Continental Congress passing a resolution on June 14th, 1777 stating that “the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white”, and that “the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”  June 14th is not only Flag Day, but also the official birthday of the United States Army, which was adopted two years before Flag Day in 1775.
