Nancy’s Silver Café in Downtown Silver City is one 25 historic small restaurants each receiving a $40,000 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Among the winners, the funds are to be used to make much needed updates such as creating outdoor seating, address deferred maintenance of their historic spaces, and fund other general operating and marketing costs. Out of the 25 named winners, Silver Café is the only recipient in the state of New Mexico. Congratulations!

The Town of Silver City will be holding their Regular July Meeting on Tuesday July 12th in the Grant County Administration Center at 6:00 P.M. Some of the topics included on the agenda include the Recreation Center, Current and Proposed Swimming Pool, Scott Park Golf Course, Condition Use Permit for a new transitional house on Cooper Street, and several other items. Agendas are available prior to the meeting and may be obtained at City Hall, located at 101 West Broadway and City Hall Annex located at 1203 North Hudson, or on the Town’s website, www.townofsilvercity.org.

WNMU’s Mariachi Plata de Western New Mexico University will be participating in Mariachi Spectacular in Albuquerque next week to attend musical workshops, taking part in the collegiate category of the showcase competition, and performing for the public on Friday night. According to a news release, “the 17 WNMU student musicians are majoring in other fields while minoring in music and carrying on the regions cultural identity with traditional tunes.”  Mariachi Plata de WNMU is a past winner of the collegiate category at Mariachi Spectacular.

The Silver City American Legion Allingham-Golding Post #118 is hosting their free annual Veterans Picnic at the Gomez Peak Picnic Pavilion on Saturday, July 16th from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. All local veterans and their families are welcome to attend. In addition, on July 30th, the group will be hosting another $8 Pancake Breakfast at the posting building located at 409 W. College Avenue in Silver City.
