At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 19,502 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases, an increase of 467 new cases. In addition, COVID-19 cases locally impacting the area are as follows: Grant County remained at 63 total cases; Luna County increasing to 197 total cases; Hidalgo County remaining at 85 total cases; and Catron County remaining at 4 total cases. Statewide, there are 159 individuals currently hospitalized and 7,459 individuals designated as recovered.

 In other COVID-19 related news, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham approved $178 million of CARES Act funding for small businesses, local and tribal governments. The Governor announced that the application for the funding has been completed that covers necessary expenditures incurred due to the public health emergency for the period beginning on March 1st, 2020, through December 30th, 2020.

 The Luna Board of County Commissioners met in a special meeting yesterday to finalize and approve the County’s nearly 44 million-dollar budget. Included this year was a 2% pay raise for all County employees. According to a release, all funding requests for outside agencies were restored to their original request following an original 20% cut across the board. In addition, the Gross Receipts Tax has been markedly higher than anticipated during the last two months which allowed for the raises and restoration of funds to community entities.

Hidalgo Medical Services is providing mobile unit COVID-19 testing in Tyrone at the Tyrone Community Center this Thursday, July 30th. The HMS Mobile Unit will be running tests from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., closing 12:00 noon to 12:30 for lunch. The testing is free of charge and participants are reminded to bring their insurance card if they have one.
