Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.

At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 15,028 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases with 6,322 being deemed as recovered by the NMDOH. In addition, COVID-19 cases locally impacting the area include: Luna County has risen to 122 total cases; Grant County has risen to 33 total cases; Hidalgo County has risen to 72 total cases; and Catron County with 3 cases. A total of 418,357 COVID-19 tests have been performed statewide and currently there is a total 170 hospitalizations.

Due to the steady rise of COVID-19 cases in the community, the Town of Silver City offices are closed to the public until further notice. These closures to the public include: City Hall; City Hall Annex ; the Public Safety Building ; the Silver City Public Library; and the Municipal Court. Essential offices and departments will operate during normally scheduled business hours, however, business will need to be conducted electronically, via email, by mail or by telephone. Departments, at the discretion of the Department Head and Town Manager, may make appointments with individuals on a case by case basis. In addition, Luna County has reverted back to allowing public entry into the courthouse by appointment only. Visit lunacountynm.us for information.

 The Cub Fire is burning on National Forest System lands on the Wilderness Ranger District, Gila National Forest and at the compiling this report has burned 22,862 acres. The fire is progressing north, northeast, and west.  There is some progression towards the southeast and remains two (2) miles east of the Mogollon-Baldy Lookout. The fire remains 11 miles northwest of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. The Town of Silver City has scheduled a water outage tomorrow Tuesday July 14th from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Ridge Road from Mountain View Drive to the Grant County Detention Center and surrounding areas. Areas that will be affected by the outage are the Quail Ridge Subdivision and the Silver Acres. A new 12-inch water main will be connected.
