At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a new total of 160,543 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide, an increase of 1434 new cases. Data shows that a total of 82,809 people have recovered from COVID-19. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has increased 19 new cases for a total of 1,145 positive cases; Luna County has increased 28 new cases for a total of 2,588 positive cases; Hidalgo County increased 1 new case for a total 279 positive cases; and Catron County increased 1 new case for a total of 68 positive cases. In addition, there are currently 691 COVID-19 related hospitalizations statewide.

The Gila National Forest offices and ranger stations will be closed on Monday, January 18th in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on January 18, 2021 is the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy.  Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day Is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to Improve their communities.  For more information on how to serve the community go to americorps.gov/newsroom/events/mlk-day. In addition, the Catwalk National recreation Trail and the Whitewater Picnic Area will be fee-free due to the holiday.

According to an announcement, all New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions offices, including the Unemployment Insurance Operations Center, will be closed on this Monday, January 18th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In addition, the operations center and all NMDWS online systems will be unavailable starting at 12 noon on Friday, January 22nd through Saturday, January 23rd. The department will be moving system servers at this time.
