Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.

At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a new total of 157,974 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide, an increase of 933 new cases. Data shows that a total of 80,580 people have recovered from COVID-19. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has increased 8 new cases for a total of 1,115 positive cases; Luna County has increased 6 new cases for a total of 2,532 positive cases; Hidalgo County remained the same for a total 278 positive cases; and Catron County increased 2 cases for a total of 66 positive cases. In addition, there are 715 current COVID-19 related hospitalizations statewide.

A donation of $2,000 was presented to Grant County Volunteer Fire Departments and Fire and Emergency Management Officers from the Silver City Regional Association of REALTORS®. The funds were made possible by realtors who attended the “New Mexico Association of Realtors 2020 Virtual Summer Legal Update”, whereby each association in the state received an equal share of the funds raised to go their local first responders. Western New Mexico University advanced painting and drawing students are exhibiting their work in a pop-up gallery in a storefront at the corner of Bullard Street and Broadway Avenue in Downtown Silver City. According to the release, the rotating installment of WNMU expressive arts student work is themed, ”We All Build Narratives”, and is viewable from the outside of the building at 116 N. Bullard Street. The work was inspired by realities of living through a pandemic.
