The Grant County Outdoor Recreation and Trails Plan Team will be holding additional user groups discussions to gauge priorities and needs for the recreation system. Three discussions regarding the future of outdoor recreation and trails will occur in mid-March as part of the ongoing Grant County Outdoor Recreation and Trails Master Plan. According to a news release, the intent of the discussions is to hear from recreation enthusiasts directly about the strengths and weaknesses of the county’s current array of recreational opportunities. The three discussions will be held during the week of March 14th and have an in-person and virtual option. In-person meetings will be held at the Grant County Administration Building Commission Room. Interested individuals can register for the virtual meeting by visiting the “Get Involved” tab at GetOutsideGrantCounty.org. Registration is not required for the in-person meeting.

The Keep Luna County Beautiful program is accepting letters of interest from community organizations for Illegal dumping and trash pick-up events around Luna County. Organizations can earn funds for their group by committing to participate at one illegal dump site pick up and the Great American Cleanup or Toss No Mas clean-up events in order to earn $1,000. In addition, groups may participate in the Great American Cleanup or Toss No Mas events, as well as one regular community trash pick-up event to earn $500. Letters of interest must be addressed to Mary Mackey, Community Development Liaison, 700 South Silver in Deming.

LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens) Council 8003 of Silver City is awarding a limited number of scholarships to Silver and Cobre high school students as well as any qualified Grant County resident. Scholarship applications must be complete to receive full consideration and are due by March 31st. In addition, a special $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Grant County music major in honor of the late local musician, Omar Holguin. Applications are available online at LNESC.org.
