US Highway 180 Closure Update: The New Mexico Department of Transportation continues to monitor the roadway through the weekend until the repairs are complete. Large rocks and materials have been backfilled to divert the course of the water away from the bridge. Even though this work was done, the bridge remains unsafe for pedestrian and vehicle passage. Base course was ordered to be delivered August 25th and will be placed on the roadway immediately upon delivery. If all goes as planned, the road will be opened with “loose gravel” signs in place. Arrangements have been made to contract paving the roadway on Monday, August 29th. The highway will remain open during the process of paving. The closure is supported by law enforcement and residents are asked to respect the closure and avoid the area.

Silver City’s Annual Day of the Dead Parade 2022 is returning this year. It will be held on Tuesday, November 1st, at 5pm. As is the tradition of the “Day of the Dead” will be celebrated by Silver City. There will be a parade and everyone who enters is encouraged to paint their faces in “Day of the Dead” theme. Grand Jury indicts Luna County CBP agent on a charge of denying US citizen’s rights. Oscar Orrantia, 36, allegedly slammed a citizen against the car in 2019 at a traffic stop, depriving the citizen of his rights. Orrantia appeared in court August 24th and was released by a federal judge into pretrial services instead of jail. If convicted, Orrantia could be fined a $250,000 and serve five years in prison.

For our Deming listeners, the Luna County Offices will be closed tomorrow, Friday, August 26th, to participate in a County Community Clean Up event.
