During the New Mexico Legislative Special Session yesterday, the House of Representatives passed HB 2, entitled the Household Relief Payments bill, that will send direct payments to New Mexicans for the purpose of providing economic relief from rising gas prices and other necessities. According to a news release, “The payments will consist of a total of two $250 payments for individuals and two $500 payments for joint filers. All New Mexicans that file a state tax return will receive the funds and there will be no “means test” or income gap. Seniors, people with disabilities, or others with little or no taxable income will also be eligible to receive direct relief payments.” HB 2 passed by a vote of 51 to 13. The bill now goes to the Senate for a floor vote.

The Village of Santa Clara has announced to the public that Maple Street will be closed for Fort Bayard Street to Aguila Street for approximately 3 months, beginning on April 11th to mid-July. Contractors have been hired to replace the Maple Street Bridge. Motorists and pedestrians should use alternate routes following the detour signs.

The Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest will be holding their Daisy Launch program that is designed for Pre-K girls, giving them a chance to participate in activities and experience the fun and adventure that await her as a Girl Scout Daisy. Girls entering Kindergarten or First Grade are welcome to attend the event in Silver City on April 9th and 27th, in Bayard on April 12th, and in Deming on April 9th and 13th.
