If you know of any youth wanting a summer job and might be interested in applying, reach out to the Commons in Silver City for more information! Last summer, they had a great team of youth assisting with the facilities for a 6-week program.  The deadline to apply is May 6th.  The Common’s mission is to meet the immediate needs of Grant County residents who are food insecure and strive to build community around the concepts of food justice, local self-sufficiency and sustainability.

In state news, today the Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD) Cabinet Secretary Elizabeth Groginsky provided an overview of the upcoming expansion of the New Mexico PreK program in FY24. The FY24 budget passed by the New Mexico State Legislature includes nearly $100 million for New Mexico PreK, which is projected to expand the program by 40 percent, adding thousands of new PreK slots in the coming year. This will constitute the largest expansion of the New Mexico PreK program in state history, bringing NM PreK to more communities, more children, more days of the year, and more hours of the day. For more information on how this can benefit you, go to the Early Childhood Education and Care Department’s website.
