The New Mexico Department of Public Health and Public Education Department have announced the dates for “Student COVID-19 Vaccination Week” that will be held the week of May 3rd through 8th. Students ages 16 and over will be given priority for making appointments on the NMDOH COVID-19 Vaccine Registration System. Beginning Monday, April 26th, all New Mexicans 16 years and older will be able to self-schedule their own vaccination appointments through vaccineNM.org, no event code required. Vaccinations for New Mexicans under age 18 require parental consent. In addition, Pfizer is the only vaccine available for students 16-to-17-years-old.

PNM is informing customers of a service available to check where underground utility lines are located on their property. Customers are urged to call 811, a free service to utilize before digging, to make sure any underground lines are not damaged. Once a customer calls 811, the information collected by their representative will be communicated to appropriate utility companies, like PNM. PNM and other utilities with lines located in the customer’s dig site will send professional utility locating technicians to identify and mark the approximate location of lines within two working days of the phone call. Community volunteers are requested to take part in a Silver City-Grant County Litter Pickup Event scheduled tomorrow, Saturday April 24th from 8:00 A.M. to 12 P.M. The cleanup will be staged along an 11 mile stretch of Highway 180 East from milepost 115, Ace Hardware, to milepost 126, in Hurley. Participants are encouraged to preregister at the Silver City Chamber of Commerce or Terrazas Funeral Chapels in Santa Clara. Safety vests and trash bags will be provided by the New Mexico Department of Transportation. In according with the governors COVID regulations, volunteers will be assigned to a location along the route the day of the event and asked to follow social distancing and mask requirements. Participants are requested to wear sturdy shoes, and bring their own gloves, hat, sunscreen, and drinking water.
