The Gila National Forest, Glenwood Ranger Station  is closed today, April 12th, and tomorrow, April 13th for an all-staff training session. Visitors needing maps, information or permits may call or visit the Silver City Ranger District at 575-388-8021 or the Reserve Ranger District at 575-533-6232. Voicemail messages left at the Glenwood office will be returned after the training session is complete. 

Sisbarro in Deming is having Free Child Safety Seat Inspections this Saturday, April 15th from 10a.m. to 12pm at 4210 New Mexico Highway 549. The free educational event will provide instructions on installation, proper selection and use of their car seats from nationally certified safety technicians. In order to participate, parents will need to bring their car seat, car seat manual, vehicle manual and the child who will be using the seat.  For more information call 505-856-6143.

The Commons will be having Folk Music this Sunday, April 16th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 501 East 13th Street. Those who attend are encouraged to bring instruments and songs to share. This is for beginners and accomplished individuals as well. Everyone is welcome! 

The Silver Consolidated Schools Work Session will meet on April 17th at 5:30 p.m. followed by the regular Board meeting at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be in the Home Economics room at Cliff Schools. 

Grant Soil and Water Conservation District will hold a monthly board meeting on Monday, April 17th at 4:00p.m. The meeting will be held at 3082 32nd Street Bypass Road in the NRCS Building, Suite C. The meeting will be open to the public. 

Governor Michelle Lujan Grishman recently signed into law the “ Official Aroma” law, which passed the state House with no opposition. This law declares that the smell of green chile roasting is now New Mexico’s official aroma. 

For Hidalgo County graduates, there is a $1000 scholarship available to one Animas and one Lordsburg graduate senior. Applications are available from school counselors or by emailing lordsburgelks@yahoo.com. Applications must be postmarked by April 28th. All seniors from Animas and Lordsburg are encouraged to apply.
