The Gila Regional Medical Center Auxiliary have announced they are now accepting applications for the GRMC Educational Financial Assistance Scholarship, also known as the GRMC Auxiliary Scholarship. The Scholarship assists individuals in Nursing Education, entry level R.N., advanced training for those who are already R.N.s, and for those enrolled in other health care fields. The GRMC Auxiliary Scholarship is open to any student who is accepted into an accredited National League of Nursing Program or in an accredited Health Care Program. Preference will be given to residents of the GRMC four-county service area: Grant, Luna, Hidalgo, and Catron, and to GRMC caregivers. Applications are being accepted until June 25th and can be obtained at the Human Resources Department office at GRMC.

The City of Deming and Deming Public Schools have created a Summer Youth Recreation program that is beginning on Monday, June 11th at 8:00 a.m., at the Shedden Memorial Courts (corner of Buckeye and Nickel streets) across from the old Deming High School. The program is designed for children from 6 through 13 and will feature lunch and a Variety of sports activities. Late registration may available by call Director, Silas Wilson at 575-546-2611.

Silver City MainStreet launched a new walking tour guide titled “Stories From Our Streets – Discover the Town that was Built to Last”, during a ribbon cutting ceremony this week that was followed by a free viewing of the 1940’s film, “Silver City on Parade”. The tour features 18 different buildings that have plaques placed in front of them that tell a brief history of the building. The tour is available all year round and will encourage visitors to tour the downtown area.

Tomorrow the 10th Annual “Jump Into Summer” family fun day will be taking place from 11:00 A.M to 3:00 P.M. in Gough Park in Silver City. This free event encourages families to get outside and learn how to keep their activity levels up throughout the summer. Various community organizations are participating in the event so they can share ideas and resources with the public. This year’s co-presenting sponsors are Freeport McMoRan and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico.
