Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

Saturday, June, 13, at about 4:30 a.m., Grant County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to #8 Cherry Street in Arenas Valley in reference to shots fired. While deputies were responding to that address, they received information that a male had been shot, a news release stated.  Callers gave Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority dispatchers information describing the suspects’ vehicle, which deputies found heading east on Highway 180, the release said. A traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of Prescott and Cottonwood in Santa Clara, and deputies determined that the suspects were passengers in the vehicle.

On June 27, a group of fraternity men will be arriving in Wickenburg as the journey of their lives continues. This group of 25 cyclists and 9 crew members is participating in The Ability Experience’s Journey of Hope, a 3,700-mile cycling event across the country. From Long Beach to Washington D.C., these men will be cycling to raise funds and awareness for people with disabilities.

Today, Governor Susana Martinez signed into law a bipartisan jobs package designed to recruit new businesses to New Mexico, make it easier for small businesses to get off the ground and grow, expand trade and commerce along our southern border, and increase employment in the technology sector of New Mexico`s economy.

To assist doctors in diagnosing Ebola virus disease quickly, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) will pursue development of an Ebola virus diagnostic test for use in a doctor’s office, hospital, clinic, or field setting that will provide results within 20 minutes.

USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner came to Moriarty, New Mexico to continue the month-long celebration of homeownership (see attached below) by honoring Charles Varner a Navy veteran.  The visit is one of numerous events held across the nation and one of seven events here in New Mexico during the month of June. The activities and events are focusing on housing’s role in creating jobs and stimulating economic activity.
