Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued an arroyo and small stream flood advisory for North Central Grant County for today.  Radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms.  This could cause arroyo and small stream flooding in the advisory area.  Locations that are expected to experience flooding include Lake Roberts, Camp Thunderbird, Pinos Altos, and the Black Canyon, McMillan, Rocky Canyon, Cherry Creek, and Sapillo Campgrounds.

The Grant County Board of Commissioners is looking to appoint one (1) individual to the Grant County Parks and Recreation Committee. Interested individuals must submit a letter of interest and/or resume. Deadline for submissions is Monday, July 6, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. Letters of interest and/or resumes must be submitted to the Grant County Administration Center, County Manager’s Office – 1400 Highway 180 East.

Western Bank and the Bootheel Foundation have awarded scholarships to the Class of 2015.  Recipients of the scholarships include Esmerelda Bajo and Timmy Holder of Animas, Ramon Valdez of Bisbee, Cassidy Lewis of Cliff, Marissa Gallarde of Cobre, Emily Clouse of Duncan, Taylor Hayes, Ciarra Garcia and Monet Neave of Lordsburg, Caylin Tibbetts of San Simon, Joshuah Wright of Silver City, and Daniel Diaz of Wilcox.  Congratulations to the Class of 2015 Scholarship Recipients.

The Grant County 4-H Rodeo was held this past Saturday and Sunday at the Southwest Horseman’s Arena.

Hidalgo Medical Services sponsored the Jump Into Summer program for kids and adults at Gough Park on Saturday with lots of activities, including several water-themed ones that took the edge off the warm day.

As part of the fundraising effort for Relay for Life and its quest for money to support the search for a cure for cancer, Cutting for the Cure, took place Saturday at The Rage in Bayard.

Governor Susan Martinez recently announced appointments to boards and commissions.  Individuals from Grant County who received appointments include Fred Barraza of Arenas Valley, who was appointed to the New Mexico Arts Commission; Michael McMillan of Tyrone, who was appointed to the Athletic Trainer Practice Board; and Shannon Rivera of Silver City, who was appointed to the State Early Learning Advisory Council.
