Happy 148thBirthday Old Fort Bayard!

 

The Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society invites the public to come enjoy a day of birthday activities August 23, 2014.

Beginning at 9:15 AM with a flag raising ceremony, followed by a walking tour of Old Fort Bayard. The Museum and gift shop will be open all morning. Vintage games will be set up in the yard for everyone’s enjoyment.

At 10:30 AM, there will be book sales and signings. Local co-authors Andrea Jaquez and Neta Pope, of “The Fort Bayard Story ~ 1866 – 1899” will be on hand with their limited edition history books.

Author Richard Melzer, of the recently published “Sanatoriums of New Mexico” will be present with his books.

Birthday Cake and refreshments will be served at 11:00AM.

Top off the day at 7 PM in the Fort Bayard New Deal Theater. Vanann Moore will present “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” based on the true story of a Colorado gold miner’s wife, Molly Brown, a Titanic survivor.

All ages are invited and the event is free of charge. Moore is noted as one of the most talented artists to perform unique historical characterizations in drama and song. She not only researches these characters but writes her scripts as well. “VanAnn Moore is music, theatre, and history all in one person!” The event is sponsored by the NM Humanies Council and the Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society. All donations are appreciated.
