The Silver City Police & Public Works Department at the Silver City Neighborhood Alliance have begun a new project to remove unwanted graffiti in Silver City.  The beautification effort will begin in Downtown Silver City and hopefully include other neighborhoods as the program builds.

The act of “tagging” is illegal, so if you ever see someone in the act, call 911 to report it right away, and be sure to report graffiti to officials quickly if you see a new “tag”.  According to the release, “graffiti is less likely to reoccur if it is promptly removed.”  The beautification effort intends to reach out to affected property owners to “support repainting” and help deal with the graffiti when owners “do not have the resources to do so.”

To report graffiti in progress, call 911.  To report graffiti that is already completed, call Regional Dispatch at 388-8840.  Be prepared to inform dispatch where it is located, what it has been painted on, what color it is, and where it is in relation to the ground.
