The Town of Silver City is seeking public input as it develops an Active Transportation Plan focused on making walking, biking, rolling and other forms of transportation without a car safer, more comfortable and better connected. A proposed Silver City ordinance could give mobile-home owners more protection if the land beneath their homes is put up for sale. The proposed Opportunity to Purchase ordinance would give residents of manufactured-home communities a chance to organize and potentially purchase the property themselves, rather than having the community sold to another owner. The proposal is intended to address a situation where residents own their homes but rent the land, which can make relocation difficult and costly. The proposal has been under review by the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission before potentially moving to the Town Council.
Catron County is continuing its emergency air-medical membership agreement with PHI Cares, providing coverage for county residents through June 30, 2027. The membership is designed to cover the uninsured or otherwise uncovered portion of medically necessary air-ambulance flights provided by PHI, helping residents avoid additional out-of-pocket air-transport costs. Coverage applies to flights originating in Catron County and several surrounding counties, including Grant County. The agreement does not cover transportation provided by other air-ambulance companies or ground ambulances.

PNM is warning customers across New Mexico about copper theft during September’s Copper Theft Awareness Month. The utility reported 46 copper-theft incidents involving business customers in 2025, with stolen wiring potentially causing power fluctuations, sparks and arcing around transformers and meter boxes. Customers are urged to watch for signs of tampering but never touch damaged electrical equipment or exposed wiring, which could still be energized. Suspected copper theft or damaged equipment should be reported to PNM.
