Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

Following a year in which the men’s team claimed yet another Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title, the star-studded squad was selected to once again claim the title in the RMAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Lady Mustangs, after placing third last year and fighting near the top throughout the RMAC Tournament, were selected to finish third.

The Town of Silver City Council will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 6:00 pm at the Grant County Administration Center, 1400 Hwy 180 East, Silver City, New Mexico. The public is invited to attend.  The agenda can be obtained at City Hall, 101 W. Broadway Ave or on the Town’s website at www.townofsilvercity.org. If you are an individual with a disability who needs a reader, amplifier, qualified sign language interpreter, or any other form of auxiliary aid service to attend or participate in the hearing or meeting, contact the Town Clerk at 534-6346 at least one week prior to the meeting or as soon as possible.

Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) will be upgrading the generator by installing new transfer switches. This is a major upgrade making the power supply to the hospital more secure in the event of a power outage.  The upgrade will take place during the week of September 21, from 9 to 10pm and in the early hours between 4 and 5am, with extra staff on hand to minimize any disruption. GRMC will function normally and continue to offer quality care to its patients during these upgrades.

The Continental Divide Trail has been selected as one of ten finalists for a $25,000 grant.  The funding awarded to CDTC will help support new Trail construction of the CDT in New Mexico in the Gila and Carson National Forests in and around Silver City and Chama, respectively. The funding will also help us train new adopters to take over the maintenance of the CDT in the areas once completed.  Please visit http://superiortrails.michelobultra.com/ and vote every day from now until October 31 to help complete the CDT and help get funding for the CDT in New Mexico.
