The Mimbres Region Arts Council is proud to present Pickamania! 2013.  This year, Pickamania! will take place in Silver City’s Gough Park from September 13th through the 15th, and of course, it’s free!

For those who may be new to the area, Pickamania! is an outdoor music festival featuring bluegrass, folk, Americana, and roots music.  The festival boasts great entertainment from local bands as well as regional and national artists.  Headlines for the event include “The Dusty Buskers” from Tucson Arizona, “Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem” from the east coast, and the award-winning “Trishas” from Austin Texas.  Other bands will join in from Socorro, Santa Fe, Glenwood, Las Cruces, and of course: Silver City.

Pickamania! originated in the 1980’s in Caballo, New Mexico on a local mandolin maker’s property.  The Mimbres Region Arts Council began organizing the event in 2008, when they also began expanding the festival to feature a more diverse mix of musicians from the national level.  “This is a music-loving community,” says Faye McCalmont, executive director of the Arts Council, “as we know from the popularity of our Blues Festival- which has grown every summer for almost two decades.  People love the ‘grassroots’ nature of the event, where you can literally dance on the grass.”
