The Kiwanis Circle K Club of Western New Mexico University will be traveling to Albuquerque this weekend to assist with Balloon Fiesta. Club officers were inducted earlier this week during the annual Kiwanis Club of Silver City Officer Installation Banquet. Club President, Bre Anne Springer was installed to lead the group this year along with, Jesus Segura, Ariana Medina, Ivan Moya and Rebekah Stevens. Circle K International is a Kiwanis leadership partner that is the world’s largest student-led collegiate service organization that helps students gain resume worthy skills, find lifetime friends and contributes thousands of hours of service all over the world.

This week, Gila Regional Medical Center signed a memorandum of understanding recognizing its partnership between Gila Regional Emergency Medical Services and the Town of Silver City Fire Department. The updated agreement will ensure that the Silver City Fire Department will have the needed supplies and pharmaceuticals when they arrive on a call. GRMC Chief Executive Officer, Taffy Arias stated in a release, “This updated agreement between Gila Regional Emergency Medical Services and the Town of Silver City Fire Department assures that the citizens of our city and our county will receive the best EMS service possible. Thank you to the Town of Silver City Fire Department – and our EMS team – for all they do each and every day.”

In recognition of October being designated as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” Deming and Luna County agencies have placed purple ribbons through the city. According to the Deming Headlight, Healing House, Luna county’s shelter for survivors of domestic violence, is one of the agencies supporting the awareness effort this month. The Healing House mission statement is to provide comprehensive support and intervention services to people impacted by domestic violence, by offering emergency shelter, protection order advocacy, counseling, immigration advocacy, and education and training classes. In addition, Healing House ensures confidentiality and a safe environment for survivors of domestic violence in Deming and Luna County.
