The Gila Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and GRMC Foundation have rewarded nine recipients with scholarships during the Board of Trustees meeting this month. The scholarship program is supported by proceeds derived from annual fundraising events and money earned in the GRMC Auxiliary Gift Shop. Students are eligible for the scholarships by maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and are enrolled to complete a degree program or have received training to meet a current professional requirement. Every Year, seven to eleven eligible students are awarded up to $2,000 in scholarships for tuition aid. This year’s nine scholarship recipients are as follows: Lilia Cordova; Pedro Corral; Candace Laramore; Kyle Lipke; Star Ann Moon; Analissa Quinteros; Kathleen Villanueva; David Montes; and Savannah Parga. Congratulations to all!

University of New Mexico Center for Development and Disability, and Hearts for Autism, a non-profit group is hosting a family training on Autism Spectrum Disorder next Thursday, November 7th in Deming. The training is designed specifically for family members and will provide support and encourage discussion about challenges and experiences. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 59 children in the United States today. The training session on Deming will take place on November 7th from 9:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. at the Special Education Department Office located at 310 West Elm Street. The City of Bayard has given a Notice of Intent to adopt a Wastewater User Fee Increase for the repayment of the Colonias Infrastructure Dewatering System Project. Any public comment must be submitted to the City Clerk between October 30th and November 15th at City of Bayard office located at 800 Central Avenue. Copies of the proposed ordinance may be obtained at the Bayard City Hall.
