Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

Higher elevations in Grant County received a freeze warning last night, which could occur overnight again tonight.  A cold front pushed west through southern New Mexico yesterday, leaving a dry and cool airmass in place for the night.  Places likely to see the freeze again include the high valleys of the Gila region, including the cities of Cliff, Buckhorn, Gila Hot Springs, and Mule Creek.  The expected temperature is between 25 and 30 degrees.

Six businesses have been burglarized in Silver City since last Friday.  Harrison Schmitt Elementary School and Habitat for Humanity were the first to be struck, and since then, thieves have broken into Silver Leaf Floral, Adobe Springs, Security Finance, and Sixth Street Elementary School.  Anyone with information regarding any of these instances is asked to call Central Dispatch at 388-8840 or the Silver City Police Department at 538-3723.

In sports action, Western New Mexico University volleyball lost 3-1 against Eastern New Mexico University on Tuesday night.  WNMU is now 16-13 in the season, and 8-10 in Lone Star Conference play.  The Lady ‘Stangs will play at home against Tarleton State on Friday night.

The Mustang and Lady Mustang basketball teams will open the regular season this weekend as both play Friday and Saturday nights.  The Lady ‘Stangs lost against the Division I Arizona Wildcats 48-77 in an exhibition match on Tuesday.  The Mustangs played an exhibition against University of New Mexico and lost 57-113 on Wednesday, November 2nd.
