Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office along with other surrounding agencies have been receiving calls from residents in our area that they have warrants for their arrest for not going to jury duty. The calls are coming from a 575-313-2210 phone number. This is a SCAM.  Law enforcement will not call anyone and alert them that they have a warrant. Sheriff Raul Villanueva is encouraging citizens to not give any money or information to anyone without verifying information.

Barbara Nelson, president of the local affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, announced last week that Beth Reese will be the new program director for the Imagination Library of Grant County.  Reese has a Master’s degree in library and information science.  The Imagination Library is designed to help children dream more, learn more, care more, and be more.

Monday is the last day to sponsor a wreath for the Wreaths Across America Program, which will be held December 13th at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.  Each wreath costs $15, and if two wreaths are sponsored, a third will be provided to the cemetery.  Requests for wreaths to be laid on specific markers will be honored.

The Silver City Police Department is hosting a Koats for Kids drive through December 1st.  They are collecting coats, knit hats, gloves and mittens to be given to area schools for children in need.  They will also be preparing and distributing food baskets to those in need.  Donations can be dropped off at the Silver City Police Department through December 1st.  Shop with a Cop is also underway in Grant County and will occur on December 6th.  Any donation is appreciated, and will be accepted at Harrison Schmitt Elementary.  The Gaffney-Oglesby Marine Corps League Detachment 1328 is sponsoring the 2014 Toys for Tots campaign.  Please leave a new, unwrapped toy for a child at one of the following locations before December 10th: Saint Francis Newman Center, Indian Hills Baptist Church, Infant Jesus Catholic Church, Episcopal Church, Curves, or Station 1 or 2 of the Silver City Fire Department.
