The season of giving is upon us once again! The United States Marine Corps League Gaffney-Oglesby Detachment 1328 is joining forces with Kiwanis International, Copper Country Cruizers and St. Francis Newman Center for the 2013 Toys for Tots campaign. We are asking all residents of Grant County to contribute to a cause rooted in generous and giving spirit of America.

For nearly 70 years the Marine Corps Reserves have been providing toys to children across the nation as an official mission of the Secretary of Defense. When the wife of a post-World War II Marine Corps Reservist looked for a way to distribute toys to needy children at Christmas, the organization was quickly established to “bring the joy of Christmas to America’s needy children” and Major Bill Hendricks and his wife, Diane, began an outreach that has touched millions of children.

Kiwanis International has been helping to enhance communities and children’s lives since 1915 and has carried its mission throughout the world with its goal of serving the world’s children and the creed that, “When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream and succeed, great things will happen.”

Copper Country Cruizers and St. Francis Newman Center continue a long tradition of collecting and distributing toys. Each organization desires to show the love and charity of our citizens to those most vulnerable and most treasured assets—our children. Each recognizes the importance of bringing the dreams of a child to life, even in receiving just one toy.

It is the desire of each of these groups to bring the spirit of Christmas to our neediest children. To help a child this Christmas, please leave a new, unwrapped toy for a child ages birth through seventeen in one of the conveniently located boxes throughout the city before December 10:
