Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

The Town of Silver City is gearing up for the July 4th Independence Day Parade.  Vendors are signing up, and local groups are registering for spots in the parade.  There is live entertainment scheduled for Gough Park all day long, and optimistically we should see a city fireworks show this year.  Visit the Grant County Chamber online if you are interested in having a booth or a float at the parade.

Representative Steve Pearce will be in Silver City tomorrow vising downtown business owners from 2 to 3:30.  At 5:30, Pearce will be the keynote speaker at the Lincoln Day Dinner to be held at the Student Memorial Center at WNMU.

In another story, the Higher Education Department has announced that the Lottery Scholarship will no longer pay the entire cost of tuition.  Instead, WNMU students will only receive about $1500 from the scholarship, and will have to pay $432 out of pocket to cover the full price of tuition.

A fund has been set up for Ella Jaz Kirk, Michael Sebastian Mahl, and Ella Sala Meyers, the Ella, Michael, Ella Fund at YouCaring.com.  A fund by the same name has been set up at the Silver City Branch of Western Bank.  Please show your support for these three young people and their families.  A celebration of Ella Jaz Kirk’s life will be held this Sunday, June 1st, at the WNMU Fine Arts Center Theater at 2 pm, and all are welcome to attend.  Services for Michael and Ella will be announced when they become available.

The Wild, Wild West Pro Rodeo will be riding into town this Wednesday through Saturday, June 4th through the 7th.  Catch all of your favorite events, like the bull and bronc riding, calf roping, barrel racing and of course Mutton Bustin for the young ones.

Also coming up, the Grant County Health Council will be offering grocery store walking tours to help community members understand label reading, meal planning, and picking out nutritious foods.  For complete details, call the Health Council at 388-1198.

Summer Reading Programs are starting up for kids of all ages.  To learn more or find out how to get your children involved, contact your local library.

The 6th annual Jump into Summer Family Fun Day will be held at Gough Park on June 7th.  There will be prizes, games, relays, dancing, food, and fun for everyone.
